Alans Supercross Factory Team Race Report: Cumbernauld Rounds 7 & 8

This weekend sees rounds 7&8 of the BMX National series in Manchester, only ten days or so ago we all ventured north of the border for rounds 5&6 in Cumbernauld. The team headed up with nine riders present and some were hungry for more success.

TM Benters trying his hand at two bike racing his new 20” Torker may have bitten off more than he can chew with his worst results for a good few years, 5th and 11th on cruiser following a crash in his semi on Sunday and a disappointing 8th and 7th on 20”. Maybe time to pick a bike and stick with it.
Alexis McCartney decided to actually stick with one bike this past weekend on her home track, she made her first National final of the season on Saturday but finished one place lower on Sunday with a B final win. Progression for Al but TM thought she might have had a double win on the cruiser. Lap times were looking quick for her.
Lea Pendleton rode solid all weekend in the 30+ ladies cruiser class, two fifth place finishes and some great riding.
Todd Smith-Notman looked on fire all weekend riding his new bling Supercross, honestly the nicest bike I’ve ever seen, Todd slightly underperformed in his finals but again once he starts to string things together Todd is gonna be a real spoiler. 8th on Saturday and 6th on Sunday for Todd.
Lexie Cairns showed some real positive riding all weekend especially on Sunday where she looked on for another podium but it didn’t quite work out in the finals for her but the progress in her speed is notable for all to see, 6th on Saturday and a 4th on Sunday.
Marcus Mullen had a weekend to forget as he had to pull out of racing on Saturday for some personal issues then came back on Sunday with a bang looking fast and really on the pace, unfortunately Marcus hit the gate in the quarter final and although he tried to fight his way through the field he could only manage a 5th place and his weekend was done.
Finn Munro had a night and day weekend, Finn made a small error in his semi final on Saturday and missed the main but went out and smashed his B final, Finn got himself together for Sunday and rode hard all day to bag himself a podium 3rd place.
Lexi Waite, in what is my personal favourite age group to watch (15’s girls) because it’s so competitive Lexi crashed in her first Moto after banging elbows with Laurie Anne Carruthers, two tough girls that don’t like giving an inch even in Moto number one, Lexi got a brake lever in the eye and looked like she had done a few rounds with Tyson Fury. In typical Lexi fashion she dusted herself down, borrowed some goggles and cracked on with the racing, she went into turn one battling for the lead but was on the outside of ‘Jumping Jess’ Lexi just about bagged the holshot prize (Kerr ching) but had to give way to Jess who took the win. On Sunday Lexie dominated the class and was pretty much untouchable, her 3rd win of the season keeping her on top of the rankings.
Maisie Egan, saving the best until last….
Maisie has been struggling with form a little bit this season but she has remained positive and never let her dip stop her enjoying herself, who knew her form was hiding in Scotland, on both Saturday and Sunday Maisie burst out of the gate and went on to win both days, it was so great to see her back where she belongs at the top step on the podium, she looked aggressive and determined all day. Well done Maisie. 🙌🏻
We head to Platt Fields in Manchester this weekend with hopefully a full team turn out and we will be looking to cement our place in the top 3 of the National team championship.
