SE Racing 1989 PK Ripper Bike Black / Gold

One of the most iconic frames of the 1980's, the PK Ripper the signature model of pro racer Perry Kramer, was ahead of time of time being made from aluminium for light weight and stiffness, which of course became the material almost all race frames were made from by the 90's.

35 years old this year, with this 1989 model, SE addressed the seat tube cracking issues that plagued the earlier looptail frames by resorting to the more common 7/8" seatpost size and created a custom extruded seat tube with built-in allen bolts to beef up this area and eliminiating entirely any chance of cracking. This era of frame is now becoming as scare as the earlier ones, as there were fewer sold after the early/mid 80's boom. The frame has been powder coated gloss white by our friends at Kings Industry and finished with a set of accurate DelCal produced stickers.

Matched to the frame are the chrome Landing Gear forks that came to us with the frame, of course instantly recognisable with their oversized legs and bologna-cut dropouts. 

This custom one-off bike was assembled in-house by our head mechanic, Adam, and this rides like a new bike. 

On the steering front we went with a period-looking gold anodised Tange MX320 alloy headset which looks just like an 80's original but inside uses modern sealed cartridge bearings which make the steering unbelievably smooth and help keep the headset tight (a big issue of course with threaded forks). The stem is a high-quality Nitto MX-2 made Japan and we chose modern United Supreme bars, full cro-mo,  with a 9" rise for rideability. The bars are finished off with classic USA-made A'ME Round grips. 

For braking we went with a Dia-Compe 883QR caliper and a Tech-77 lever, about the best working caliper set-up you can get, finished off with a gold MCS cable.  Lever is on the left, but if you'd prefer a right just let us know and we'll swap it for you. 

In the drivetrain department we have the 175mm GT Power Series cro-mo cranks, with 48 spline spindle (so no pinch pinch bolts for a nice clean look). A sealed bearing bottom bracket makes things spin nice and smooth. An MCS alloy 110 BCD spider, SunTour style 44T chainring and chrome ID chainring bolts are matched to gold Cult 410 chain. You get the power to ground with the Haro Fusion pedals, based on the original Shimano DX's. 

For seating, we chose the Relic Choice slim microfibre railed seat, which sits on a Darxide 15"-long  7/8" cromo seatpost, so you can actually ride this :)

Finally, for wheels have a pair of iconic Skyway Tuff Wheels with sealed bearings, fitted with a chrome 16T chrome freewheel and the newly re-issued Tioga Comp III kskinwall tyres, 1.75" rear/2.125" front.
